根据剑桥英语词典的解释，engineering的意思是“the work of an engineer, or the study of this work"韦氏大辞典的解释：“the application of science and mathematics by which the properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature are made useful to people ”从中可以看出engineering有对于某个科技领域进行研究和新科技应用的意思，也就是理解为对于航天工程方面做一些课题的研究和应用，并建造航天器，实施载人飞行。
所以采用这个词。另外“engineering” 在工程建设领域 还含有“设计”的意思比如EPC项目，“E”就是这个“engineering”
